Under the direction of the Economic Development Associate for Business Development, this position performs duties associated with all functions of the Economic Development division, including, but not limited to, data-driven business attraction, retention, and expansion; oversight of business development programs, such as SizeUp Santa Clarita; and support of local businesses through marketing campaigns including Shop Local and Santa Clarita Spotlight, and others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists with the coordination and implementation of the City’s business attraction, retention, and expansion programs by leveraging data analytics and business intelligence tools and conducting targeted outreach to support existing and prospective businesses
• Assists with business attraction outreach by developing marketing materials, attending industry events, networking, and meeting one-on-one with business leaders
• Conducts extensive business outreach through workshops, trade shows, and onsite visits and retail attraction outreach
• Develops and executes strategic marketing and outreach campaigns across print, in-person, and social media channels to promote business programs and incentives, support services, and online tools
• Researches, analyzes, and interprets social, economic, and business data and trends
• Oversees the City's business intelligence program by promoting the publicly available tools, developing and delivering workshops, and offering one-on-one insight sessions; generates customized data reports to help business owners and entrepreneurs make informed decisions around growth, planning, and market strategy
• Compiles and analyzes economic, demographic, and business data to assess local conditions; prepares studies and reports, such as economic base analyses, labor market profiles, market feasibility assessments, and land use or property data summaries.
• Researches, monitors, and analyzes social, economic, and policy trends, including legislation, grant opportunities, and best practices in business support, and recommends enhancements to City programs and strategies
• Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of performance measurements to evaluate the effectiveness of City programs
• Assists businesses with the City’s development and permit processes by serving as the liaison with the City’s One-Stop Permit Center and connecting them with useful resources and services
• Collaborates with community partners, such as the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Valley Industry Association, Old Town Newhall Association, and the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation
• Prepares written reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and elected officials on business development activities, economic trends, and policy recommendations.
• Maintains current knowledge of new trends and innovations in the economic development field, participates in professional development activities; reads publications relevant to area of assignments
• Assists with budget analysis, monitoring, and forecasting
• Develops, fosters, and maintains positive working relationships with the local business community, state and local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public
• Reviews and responds to questions and/or complaints from citizens and provides information accordingly
• Attends City Council meetings and other meetings as assigned
• Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Marketing, Economic Development, or a related field
• Professional experience in economic development, workforce development, or public and/or private sector marketing is highly desirable
• Master’s Degree in related field is highly desirable
• Extensive knowledge of the business community and its needs is desirable
• A valid Class C California driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related functions

Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees’ Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package. All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
