Full Charge Bookkeeper/Junior Accountant

Position Overview:

To better serve our clients, we need a full-time, Full Charge Bookkeeper/Junior Accountant to be responsible for managing our clients’ financial records and ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards. About 30 clients will be supported initially and will grow over time, based on needs and resources. This position reports directly to the business owner.

Duties Responsibilities include:

·         Produce high quality financial records for our clients.

·         Process, record, and reconcile all financial transactions for the clients, including cash receipts and disbursements, credit card transactions, bank deposits, payroll transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, loan amortization adjustments, and depreciation.

·         Track fixed assets to produce and maintain depreciation schedules.

·         Reconcile and close the financial books on a monthly basis.

·         Develop financial reports in accordance with GAAP.

·         Preparing high quality financial statements and information that is ready for tax strategy discussions and tax preparation.

·         Prepare and file compliance tax returns for the clients, such as sales tax returns, business license renewals, business property tax statements, subcontractor 1099's, and other IRS year-end requirements. Assist with reviews, tax planning and tax preparation.

·         Answer client questions, review reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and analyze variances.

·         Identify anomalies and opportunities based on the financial data. Assist clients with various other small business consulting matters such as accounting principles, categorization of expenses, capitalization rules, etc., and improving accounting processes. 

·         Communicate with clients to collect and produce accurate and timely financial information.

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or business administration with focus in accounting.

·         CPA license or progress towards license preferred.

·         5+ years of experience in bookkeeping and accounting in a public accounting firm or similar multi-client environment

·         Proficient in accrual and cash basis accounting

·         Familiarity with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting requirements for public accounting firms. Experience reconciling and closing books in a timely manner and that accurately depict the client’s state of the business.

·         Success working with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and fixed asset depreciation. 

·         Knowledge of capital account closing entries, reconciliation of retained earnings, and other common capital accounts.

·         Understanding of tax laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local

·         Proven record of improving client business results through managing financial records

·         Proficient in accounting software such as QuickBooks both online and desktop versions, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

·         Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness. 

·         Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies. 

·         Patience and perseverance in the identification and integration of all the data necessary to reconcile and close client books.

·         Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, allocating own time over multiple client tasks as information and resources become available. Prioritize multiple tasks to meet client and practice deadlines.

·         Able to work both independently and collaboratively.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.  

·         Professional personal presentation in the areas of work attire, punctuality, attitude and phone etiquette.

·         Access to own transportation for local travel to clients and for personal development.

Physical Demands:

This job typically requires sitting for long periods of time and using a computer. Occasionally there may be lifting and carrying boxes or files up to 25 pounds. Occasional driving for up to 3 hours. 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range for this position is between $62,000 and $72,000 per year, based on the education, experience, and demonstrated skills.

Additional tax season performance bonus up to 5% of annual pay.
