A Part-Time Classified Represented Position
The normal workweek for this position is 19 hours per week on a Monday through Thursday schedule.

The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a part-time Health Professions and Public Safety Programs Technician (47.5%) in the Instruction division.
Salary Placement:
Salary placement will be on Range 25 of Classified Represented Salary Schedule B. ** Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($2,514.175 / $2,667.60 / $2,825.30 per month, as pro-rated for a 47.5% position) of this 20-step salary range.
Probationary period for new Classified employees is six months. Work year is 12 calendar months. The normal workweek for this position is 19 hours. Paid holiday, discretionary, vacation, personal necessity and sick time are provided, and will be pro-rated based on hours worked. A regular work schedule will be assigned, with the ability to work a flexible schedule as needed with supervisor approval.

Position Description:
Under the direction of the Dean, School of Health Professions and Public Safety, performs a wide variety of complex, specialized and responsible administrative and clerical functions, many of which are of a confidential nature, to relieve the supervisor of administrative and clerical detail. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Example of Duties
Essential Duties:

1. Facilitates all components of the Health Professions and Public Safety programs. Enforces program regulations; provides advisement for applicants and students; maintains and updates program selection policy and mission statement.
2. Provides accurate information regarding the Health Professions and Public Safety programs to applicants, other departments of the college district, and appropriate outside agencies. Assists with production of all program literature.
3. Facilitates all components of the program selection process. Provides accurate information regarding the selection process to applicants and potential applicants; screens and directs students and program applicants; accepts and processes applications; reviews and prepares applicant selection files; maintains student waiting lists; assesses files for eligibility; evaluates transcripts; and maintains adherence to selection policies.
4. Monitors various processes pertaining to Health Professions and Public Safety students including required health documentation and verification of ability to graduate. Processes related paperwork such as absence slips and accident reports.
5. Assists with preparation of material for program orientations.
6. Assists with the School of Health Professions and Public Safety office functions including ordering office supplies and program supplies, maintaining an accurate filing system; acts on behalf of the School office during time periods when other staff is absent or off campus.
7. Assists with data entry and preparation and compilation of statistical data and information pertaining to the Health Professions and Public Safety programs. Prepares reports summarizing this data.
8. Provides required student documentation to clinical site personnel. Submits facility requests to clinical sites.
9. Interacts with School of Health Professions and Public Safety faculty; maintains licensure and health data; coordinates book orders, processes correspondence, maintains appointment calendars and participates in and may take minutes for School, faculty, and advisory board meetings.
10. Is familiar with accrediting agency regulations for all Health Professions programs. Assists with compilation and processing of required reports and forms for these agencies.
11. Interacts with college service areas including Counseling, EOPS/CARE, AAC (formerly DSP&S), Student Health Center, and Admissions and Records.
12. Composes correspondence independently or in accordance with general instructions concerning a wide range of subjects requiring a thorough knowledge of policies, regulations and operational procedures.
13. Assists in preparation of purchase orders. Assists with tracking of the School and grant budgets.
14. Reviews and screens incoming correspondence and communications, screens and schedules appointments according to established guidelines, and responds to general inquiries from office visitors or telephone callers; assembles correspondence for supervisor's review with appropriate background materials available for reference.
15. Assists with management of the School of Health Professions and Public Safety websites and the web based clinical placement site.
16. Develops and inputs data for Schedule of Classes with classified committee members.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrated Knowledge and Abilities:
Position requires knowledge of:

- Personal computer operations and software packages, including the Microsoft Office package (specifically Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint), desktop publishing and database software.

Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two years of full-time experience working in educational institutions, community agencies, or comparable experience working with the public, which must include complex clerical support or other experience which would demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties that are essential to this position.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of two years (60 semester units) of college coursework.
Each two additional years of experience as indicated above may be considered in lieu of each one year (30 units) of the education requirement.
Physical Characteristics:
Position requires sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a copier and computer keyboard; reaching, bending and stooping; frequently exert 10 to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; vision to read printed materials and computer monitor.

RETIREMENT: This position is not eligible for PERS retirement plan unless hours exceed 1,000 in a fiscal year.
