Description/Duties & Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the City Librarian, this position collaborates with the Communications division to develop and implement strategies to increase the community’s awareness of library services and programs. In addition, this position promotes, markets, and supports the library’s brand, programming, and events through online and print communications, such as social media, flyers, and press releases. This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with the Communications division to plan, develop, and implement library marketing campaigns; creates press releases, designs promotional materials, and partners with various departments on marketing initiatives in support of the library

• Develops, manages, and schedules social media communications, including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, etc.

• Monitors effectiveness and reach of both marketing and outreach efforts and interprets data and tracks statistics to better direct marketing efforts

• Coordinates design, printing, and distribution of a wide variety of print materials to promote library services and programs

• Assists with designated program budget; monitors and forecasts expenses

• Coordinates various outreach opportunities for the library with community partners

• Establishes positive working relationships with staff, internal and external partners, vendors and community members and represents the library at community meetings and events to seek partnership opportunities

• Maintains current knowledge of trends related to libraries, social media, and marketing

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

• Two years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, English or related field is highly desirable

• Experience with various social media platforms is highly desirable

• Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered

• A valid Class C California driver license is required

Knowledge and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of marketing practices and the ability to evaluate and implement effective marketing and outreach campaigns and strategies and adjust based on community needs

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally and confidently, make public presentations, develop effective marketing materials, and write comprehensive reports

• Strong understanding of social media platforms, best posting practices, analytic reporting, and use of tags and hashtags

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, community members, and internal partners; ability to actively listen to staff and understand goals of programming, needs of different stakeholders, and appropriate audiences and

• Fiscal knowledge and the ability to participate in the development of cost estimates, work within the constraints of the budget and help monitor expenditures

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize daily workload, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, be flexible to changing priorities, and meet time-sensitive deadlines

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce work that is error-free, accurate, and thoughtful

• Ability to generate creative content ideas, observe existing marketing standards, and prioritize competing interests

• Ability to work autonomously and within a collaborative team

• Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate excellent judgment

• Strong work ethic and accountability for projects and outcomes; proactive, results-oriented approach

• Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed

• Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California

Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.

Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees’ Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package. All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
