The City of Santa Clarita is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organized individual to support our Contract Class program within the Recreation and Community Services Department. The Contract Class team partners with over 70 instructors to teach a wide variety of contract classes for youth and adults. Working closely with the Recreation Coordinator and Supervisor, this position combines behind-the-scenes planning in an office environment with hands-on engagement through site visits, ensuring classes run smoothly throughout all City parks and various City or business-owned facilities in Santa Clarita.
This part-time, year-round position is anticipated to work up to 20 hours per week, and will work typically during general business hours, with periodic evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The Contract Class program offers classes that start as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late as 10:00 p.m., providing a wide range of scheduling opportunities and flexibility based on program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists in the planning, promotion, and delivery of a wide variety of contract classes for youth and adults, including art, fitness, sports, and more
• Provides friendly, responsive customer service to participants, instructors, and the public via phone, email, and in-person support
• Uses the City’s registration system to enter class details, monitor enrollment and waitlists, process payments, and issue refunds
• Handles office tasks, including proofreading materials in the City’s Seasons brochure and registration software system
• Schedules meetings, organizes files, and prepares forms for meetings such as instructor proposal meetings and instructor orientation packets
• Prepares, tracks, and distributes instructor badges
• Tracks canceled classes and notifies participants of class cancellations
• Prepares and updates outdoor permits for contract instructors
• Assists in marketing efforts by generating creative ideas, researching current trends, and developing/executing engaging content to promote current classes, instructor recruitments, and more across social media and other marketing platforms
• Posts signage and restocks program supplies
• Assists with special events and collaborates with other program areas when needed - teamwork makes it happen!
• Operates personal and/or City vehicle to drive to various locations throughout the City
• Stays organized, manages priorities effectively, and meets deadlines with confidence
• Communicates clearly and professionally with staff, instructors, participants, and the general public
• Helps resolve issues and address concerns in a positive and solution-oriented manner
• Participates in meetings and training sessions to stay up to date as required
• Responds to emergencies, provides basic first aid, and reports incidents as needed
• Performs other duties as directed and jumps in where needed - flexibility and teamwork are key to our success!
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• A valid Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions may be required
• At least two years of experience in customer service, recreation, clerical support, or other relatable experience
• Knowledge of recreation programming is highly desirable
• General office experience performing clerical and/or receptionist duties is highly desirable
• Knowledge of social media practices and tools is highly desirable
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification
• A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

• Ability to drive a vehicle and travel to various City facilities as needed
• Ability to work flexible hours and a varied schedule
• Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, documents, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds may be required; position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, etc.

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
