Description/Duties and Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) employees to assist with the safety inspections and cleaning of City vehicles under the supervision of the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. This position works with Vehicle Maintenance staff to pick up and deliver vehicles to be serviced or repaired; performs errands to pick up and deliver parts and supplies; maintains shop cleanliness; makes minor repairs; and performs other duties as assigned.
This position will be required to work 20-25 hours per week, primarily during morning hours, and must be available on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs weekly safety inspections of City vehicles
• Thoroughly cleans, washes, fuels, and maintains all City vehicles
• Polishes the exterior paint and cleans the interior upholstery of all City vehicles
• Picks up and delivers City vehicles according to work schedule
• Performs errands and picks up and delivers parts and supplies
• Stocks shop parts and supplies; maintains inventory
• Performs minor vehicle repairs such as tire repair and replacing batteries
• Maintains shop cleanliness and steam cleans parts and other general shop upkeep
• Makes minor road calls for dead batteries and flat tires
• Assists Vehicle Maintenance staff as necessary
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• A minimum of six months of experience in vehicle servicing or other related experience
• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and a safe driving record is required
• Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
Knowledge and Abilities
• Knowledge of basic operations and maintenance of shop and power equipment, and components
• Ability to use basic shop hand and power tools such as ratchets, sockets, wrenches, screw drivers, pneumatic power tools, and grease guns
• Ability to drive a variety of equipment
• Ability to keep basic maintenance records
• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner
• Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group
• Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and be a creative problem solver
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Positive attitude and self-motivated
• Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing
• Ability to drive a vehicle and travel to various City facilities as needed
• Ability to work in a safe and productive manner
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including inclement weather
• This position requires physical labor, including the ability to bend, squat, lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) workers may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
Part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours per fiscal year.
