About the Role
The Store Director is fully accountable for the overall performance and success of the store, providing strategic leadership and guidance across all departments. This role oversees Fresh Market, Center Store, Customer Experience, eCommerce, and Store Operations leaders, ensuring each department operates efficiently and in alignment with Vallarta’s standards. The Store Director drives profitability, fosters customer satisfaction, and cultivates a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Be fully accountable for store performance, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Lead, coach, and mentor department directors and managers to achieve sales, labor, and service goals.
- Conduct store-wide walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, freshness, and compliance with company standards.
- Oversee and audit ordering, inventory, and merchandising across all departments.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (OSHA, Health Department, ABC, WIC, SNAP, COOL, etc.).
- Enforce safety and security programs to protect customers, team members, and assets.
- Deliver extraordinary customer service by modeling Vallarta’s Nuestra CASA pledge.
- Resolve escalated customer service concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support staffing, training, evaluations, and recognition of leadership teams.
- Conduct audits and review reports to drive accountability and improvements.
- Collaborate with HR, corporate, and district leadership on company initiatives.
- Ensure timekeeping, scheduling, and labor compliance in all departments.
- Stay informed on industry trends and competitor activity to drive continuous improvement.
- Cover responsibilities for direct reports as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).
- Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
- Use hands frequently for grasping, pushing, pulling, and equipment operation.
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Work in environments with exposure to perishable products, dust, gas, fumes, and varying temperatures.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of retail management experience (multi-department preferred).
- 5+ years leading and developing large teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to drive profitability and operational excellence.
- Knowledge of store operations, safety, merchandising, and compliance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to pass a criminal and credit check.
- Willingness to transfer to other store locations as needed.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
