Description/Duties & Responsibilities

The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing college students with a challenging and meaningful work experience. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real-world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita.

This internship will provide the opportunity for students to learn firsthand the dynamics of Economic Development in a local government setting and support each of the divisions within the Economic Development Department, including Administration, Economic Development, Arts and Events, and Transit.

SALARY:

$17.86 – $22.62/hour (Undergraduate Level)

$23.83 – $28.59/hour (Graduate Level)

This position may average 20-40 hours per week. Expected duration of this internship is from July 2023 to December 2023.

DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist with budget-related tasks, such as expenditure tracking and year-end closeout

- Identify potential businesses or special events to attract the Santa Clarita business community and write correspondence related to those identified

- Create promotional materials for various marketing campaigns, such as Shop and Eat Local and business attractions

- Monitor, compile, and analyze social media content from partners and sponsors

- Assist with miscellaneous Arts and Events and Transit related functions as needed

- Research topics needed to update marketing materials, website, presentations, special reports related to business attraction and retention efforts, and the City’s sponsorship program

- Support with administrative functions of the Film Office, including fieldwork as needed

Education and Experience

If you are a current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you.

Knowledge and Abilities

- General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations

- Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community

- Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

- Excellent verbal and written communications

- Strong interpersonal skills

- Excellent customer service skills

- Computer experience, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

- Experience with programs related to the design of promotional materials and social media platforms/analytics
